Spirit of the Fox

This grooming-behavior image is in the "2013 Showcase" of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA).  It also won the "Photo of the Day" title at EarthShots.org on February 12, 2013.

This four-week old kit fox is tracking scent.  The red fox has over 200,000,000 tiny scent glands, called olfactory receptors, in its nose.  

These red foxes are sparring, which is actually a means of dispute resolution.  Perhaps this explains why the dance step is called the "Fox Trot".
